The 33-year-old, who suffered a loss to fellow welterweight Joaquin Buckley in March, ended his losing streak with a dominant performance on Saturday night.

Less than a minute into his fight, Luque rocked Zimbabwe’s Gorimbo with a right hand, followed by a left before jumping on a rare Anaconda choke.

Then the Brazilian skillfully rolled his opponent and applied the choke, and Gorimbo didn’t even have a chance to tap, as he was immediately incapacitated.

Luque finished Gorimbo in 52 seconds in the first round, making it the fastest Anaconda choke in UFC history

“He’s got an anaconda choke here, it’s very tight,” exclaimed UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan as Luque secured the finish.

“He has it. He’s out, he’s out. Wow! That’s what we’re talking about.

“You think of this guy like it’s the end of his career. No, he’s still in his prime. He just fought some of the best in the division.

“That was a statement… Vicente Luque has nasty chokes… it was so deep and so tight.”

MMA fans reacted very quickly to the fatal submission.

A fan walked up to X and said, “That was cold, he was unconscious.”

While another added: “A Brazilian masterclass.”

A third fan replied: “That’s called a statement!”

Despite many fans’ speculation that Luque was nearing the end of his professional career, his victory at UFC 310 proved that he still has a lot to offer.

Luque wins against some of the best stars to have fought on Dana White’s roster, including current welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, Mike Perry and Tyron Woodley.

Although he lost his UFC debut in July 2015, he has since put together an impressive record, winning 16 of his 21 subsequent fights for White’s promotion.

UFC 310’s prelims also saw Dominick Reyes defeat Anthony Smith, while Movsar Evloev secured a unanimous decision win over Aljamain Sterling.
