A wet Christmas Eve is forecast for the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Forecasters said a series of storms will drench the San Francisco Bay Area through Christmas Eve. Triple storms will occur across the region between this weekend and Christmas Eve.

KRON4 meteorologist Kyla Grogan said the first storm will arrive early Saturday morning, the second on Sunday afternoon and the third on Monday. Rain showers will continue into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service wrote: “The first two systems of the weekend appear to be largely unaffected in terms of flooding; However, this weekend rainfall will set the stage for the more influential systems next week. As the ground nears saturation, trees are more likely to fall, mud and rocks to slide, and streams and streams to rise. As each system passes through, winds will also increase, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour expected in higher elevations.”

Once soils become saturated and rivers rise during the third storm, the risk of flooding will increase, Grogan said.

Christmas Day will bring sunshine and dry skies back to the Bay Area.

A high surf warning will go into effect at sunrise Saturday. A sustained westerly swell will bring more large waves Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the NWS said.

State park officials said beaches stretching from Santa Cruz County to San Mateo County are being hit by heavy surf. “On west-facing beaches you can expect surf in the 10- to 20-foot range, while on more exposed areas of the coast the surf can be twice as large. These wave events will produce dangerous rip currents, large waves and tidal surges,” park officials wrote.
