Aaron Rodgers shares his thoughts on Jets potentially selecting QB in 2025 NFL Draft

Aaron Rodgers shares his thoughts on Jets potentially selecting QB in 2025 NFL Draft

With three games left in what amounts to a lost season, the New York Jets — and quarterback Aaron Rodgers — have the future to think about. Will the 41-year-old Rodgers want to play another season and will it be his wish to play for the Jets? And if so, would the Jets want him back?

To that end, Rodgers was asked another question during his media session on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

How would Rodgers feel if the Jets wanted him back but had plans to select their next franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft?

“If they asked me back and recruited a guy, when I play, I would give him full coverage and try to play as well as I can to keep him on the bench,” Rodgers said with a smile.

There have been reports about Rodgers’ future and whether he wants to play again in 2025. As recently as November, when asked that question directly, Rodgers said, “I think so.” Rodgers, who has thrown six touchdown passes to just one interception in his last three games, has been quietly playing better lately, but believes not that this recent development will or will not influence his decision to continue his career in 1925.

“No, not really,” Rodgers said. “I’ll take some time after the year – unless I’m released straight away – but I’ll still take some time whether I want to play or not. But I’m going to take some time and get away from it one way or another.” ”

Rodgers said the Jets, with whom he signed a three-year, $112.5 million contract in 2023, would be his first choice as a destination in 1925, but as he has said in the past, things still need to happen before he can make his decision.

“There are a lot of reasons why this would be a great opportunity,” Rodgers said. “But I’ll see what happens. A lot still has to happen. They need to hire a GM. They need to hire a head coach. And then, whether I’m part of the conversation or not or whether they move forward or not, whatever happens, I’m going to take time and think about my future.

When asked if he would be willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Jets, Rodgers said he was “open to anything.”
