About 20,000 people affected by burst water pipe in Edison

Due to a water main break in Edison, some residents are without water this morning. Water gushes at the crime scene and flows past Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. Water collects in part of the road. Edison Mayor Sam Joshi says about 20,000 people have been affected by the 20-inch water pipe burst. As of 7:30 a.m., officials were working to isolate the main break point, officials said. This came just days after another water main break occurred in Edison on Route 27, about 3.5 miles away. News 12 confirmed some residents are currently without water. Around 1 a.m., officials said South Edison residents were experiencing low or no water pressure. The city then provided an update around 2 a.m. saying the water company was on scene. Edison Water Utility and several other city departments are on scene. It is not yet known when residents will get their water back. A resident of the Edison Terrace neighborhood said he was experiencing very low water pressure. He didn’t realize what was happening outside his community until it was time for work. “I woke up and was about to go to work and it was like there was a river running through here. “I don’t know what was going on, I don’t know how I’m going to get to work today,” said neighbor James Dixon. Local businesses in the area at Route 1 and Woodbridge Avenue are affected. News 12 spoke with employees at Dunkin’, Starbucks, 7-Eleven and Wendy’s, all of whom say they have been affected so far and are out of water. Dunkin’ said they received an update from the community about the water and were not given a timeline as to when the issue would be resolved. The road leading into the neighborhood is closed. There are concerns about the roadway. ”
