According to NHL Insider, this will be Jacob Trouba’s final season with the Rangers

The rumors about Jacob Trouba just don’t seem to stop.

It started in the summer when the Rangers wanted to acquire Trouba, and now it continues into the regular season.

Rangers general manager Chris Drury wants to make a big move to shake up the team. Trouba’s name is specifically mentioned in a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

While this is obvious to anyone who follows the team, Friedman recently confirmed on NHL Network that the 2024-25 season will be Trouba’s final season in New York.

“It was made very clear that Trouba just wouldn’t be happy if he was traded last year… I don’t think anything has changed,” Friedman said. “Even if there is interest in Trouba, do you really want to acquire him if he’s not going to be happy? I think next year he understands that he will go somewhere else. This is his last year in New York.”

The Rangers have lost six of their last seven games, which has led to this massive panic within the organization and trade speculation.

At this point in the season, given Trouba’s $8 million cap hit, it’s unlikely he’ll be traded or moved.

Trouba said during training camp that it was no secret that he would be the “last crack” of the Rangers core, so he seems to know his time in New York is running out.

In 24 games, the 30-year-old defenseman recorded six assists and six points while playing an average of 20:00 minutes per game.
