MILPITAS, Calif. (KGO) — Milpitas police are investigating the deaths of four people found in their home Tuesday evening.

According to police, this happened at the Turing at the Fields Apartments in Milpitas, a luxury complex near the Great Mall.

A single bouquet of flowers sat outside the door of Apartment 102 – a small sign of respect from a grieving neighbor after the tragedy.

The community members who work and live in this building were shocked and heartbroken.

“I’m very shocked considering it happened in Milpitas,” said Savannah Rae Dizon. “I mean, nothing ever really happens in Milpitas.”

“It’s scary, you know,” Jerry Saldana said. “We have a family, we have children ourselves, and the thought that we are just above the unit where it happened and have no information about it is worrying.”

According to Milpitas police, family members said they had not heard from the family who lived there for several days.

Officers found a man, a woman and two teenage children with what police called “obvious signs of death,” without providing further details.

A neighbor told us that there was a strong smell coming from the apartment on Tuesday evening.

Saldana noted the active scene Wednesday morning.

“When I came down, literally if the door was here, there was duct tape here and duct tape there and there was some furniture,” Saldana said. “As I walked by there was an office chair and a few other household items outside and an officer outside.”

According to MPD, there have been no other calls to this residence in the past.

They could not confirm whether a weapon was found or how the family died.

“At this time, all evidence indicates this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” Lt. Tyler Jamison. “This investigation is ongoing.”

Neighbors say it’s a new luxury apartment complex in a safe, quiet area.

The person who left the flowers said he would often see the children playing in the yard.

Saldana lives directly upstairs. As a father himself, he can’t believe this tragedy happened so close to the holidays.

“I have to appreciate everyone and make sure you stay safe in your own home, I think,” Saldana said. “It’s sad to think that something like this came so close. It breaks my heart.”
