Actor Dennis Haysbert will host the Tabernacle Choir’s 2024 Christmas concerts

The Tabernacle Choir of Temple Square has announced that actor Dennis Haysbert will host this year’s holiday concerts on December 19th, 20th and 21st at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Haysbert and actress Ruthie Ann Miles (announced in October) are the guest artists at the choir’s annual Christmas party.

Mack Wilberg, music director of the Tabernacle Choir, said he was looking forward to performing with Haysbert. “Dennis Haysbert’s iconic voice and great stage presence will greatly enhance the spirit and meaning of Christmas at this year’s Tabernacle Choir concert,” he said.

Dennis Haysbert is an American actor best known for his commanding presence and deep, distinctive voice. He gained notoriety through his work on both television and film. Haysbert’s career breakthrough came with his role as President David Palmer in the hit television series “24,” which earned him Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.

He has also appeared in a number of notable films, including “Major League,” and can currently be seen in “Holidazed,” a Hallmark+ holiday limited series that showcases his diverse talents.

Haysbert’s powerful, sonorous voice has made him a sought-after narrator and advertising voice, particularly as the voice of “Meet The Press,” where he can be heard weekly on television, radio and the Internet. Beyond acting, Haysbert has supported and entertained troops on many USO tours and has remained a respected figure in both the entertainment industry and activism.

Tickets for this year’s Christmas concerts are all reserved, but there will be a queue at the Tabernacle on Temple Square at 6 p.m., two hours before each Christmas concert.

Tickets are not required for the 30-minute weekly broadcast of “Music & the Spoken Word” on Sunday morning, December 22, at 9:30 a.m. following the concerts. Haysbert and Miles are scheduled to appear on the show.

For the live concert in 2023, Broadway’s Michael Maliakel and film and television actress Lesley Nicol joined the choir, orchestra and bells at Temple Square. The event was recorded for broadcast this year. The concert, “Joy: Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir,” will air on PBS on December 17 at 8:00 p.m. and December 24 at 9:30 p.m. It will also air on BYUtv from December 21st to 25th.

The choir will release the CD and DVD versions of last year’s Christmas concert. A beautifully illustrated book based on the stories from last year’s concerts is also being published: “Victor Hugo’s Wondrous Feast, The True Story of How the Author of Les Misérables Inspired the World to Love”. These products were sold on October 25th. For more information, visit the choir’s website, TheTabernacleChoir.org.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is a Grammy and multiple Emmy Award-winning, all-volunteer choral ensemble. It consists of 360 men and women who combine their talents to create their signature, instantly recognizable sound. They will be accompanied by the Orchestra at Temple Square, a 150-piece symphony orchestra, and the Bells at Temple Square, a 32-piece handbell choir, all volunteers. Together they provide inspiring music that can help people feel closer to the divine and celebrate God’s love for all of His children.

The choir performed at 13 world fairs and expositions, performed at seven U.S. presidential inaugurations, and sang for numerous worldwide television broadcasts and special events – all while broadcasting “Music and the Spoken Word,” the oldest ongoing radio network broadcast, a weekly tradition now in the 96th year. For the first time, “Music and the Spoken Word” will now also be broadcast in Spanish.
