Alabama FedEx delivery driver arrested after dozens of packages were dumped in Florida

A FedEx contract delivery driver from Alabama is jailed in Florida after authorities say he dumped dozens of packages in the woods or on the side of a road instead of delivering them.

Latavion Lewis, 28, is charged with organized fraud, grand larceny and illegal dumping, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began Saturday when authorities were alerted to the discarded packages.

Homes County is located near the Alabama state line.

Investigators contacted FedEx to help identify the driver who was supposed to deliver the missing packages. FedEx identified Lewis, a contract worker from Alabama, as the person responsible for the delivery.

Lewis has addresses in Mongomery and Houston counties.

Officers made contact with Lewis, who agreed to meet with officers at the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

During the interview, Lewis admitted to deputies that because of the late hour, he chose to dispose of the undelivered packages at multiple locations rather than return them to the FedEx warehouse.

The authorities seized 44 packages. The recovered packages went to the Bonifay Post Office, which ensured they were delivered to their rightful owners.

Lewis remained held in the Holmes County Jail Monday.
