Alabama Forecast: Storms before temperatures drop

IMPACT DAY: Slight risk of a strong storm later this evening

AND IT’S AN EFFECTIVE DAY IN CENTRAL AND NORTH ALABAMA. We have a front moving toward the state bringing us isolated thunderstorms. Now the good news is that there are no active, severe warnings across our state. THESE STORMS ARE BELOW SEVERE LIMITS, ALSO REQUIRING GUSTY WINDS AT TIMES UP TO 40 mph AND SOME HEAVY RAIN. YOU SEE A GREEN POLYGON HERE ON THE SCREEN, AND THAT IS A SURVEILLANCE ALERT THAT COVERS PARTS OF TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, BIBB COUNTY, SHELBY, JEFFERSON AND WILL LAST UNTIL 1:15 P.M. The good news is that it appears some of the heaviest rainfall is starting to move out of the flood warning, but we will be watching for minor road flooding of any kind in the coming hours. OF THAT. SLIGHTLY HEAVIER RAIN FROM CENTER TO ROCK RUN AND CHEROKEE COUNTY, ALSO TO JACKSONVILLE, ANNISTON, MUNFORD TALLADEGA. I remind you once again that there is heavy rainfall here, but it is below the strict limits. WE HAVE A STORM HERE ALSO, FROM PAYNE LAKE TO GREENSBORO, SOUTH OF HAVANA. I know we had a tornado warning here earlier. THIS IS JUST A DOWNFALL RIGHT NOW. NO signs of rotation as the storm is moving through your area at this point. AND IF WE LOOK A LITTLE FURTHER HERE, YOU CAN SEE SOME HEAVIER RAIN ALONG THE I-85 CORRIDOR NEAR MONTGOMERY. At this point, a few light showers will occur across Chilton County. So we’ll be here for the rest of the day. We keep track of the radar for you. WE EXPECT THESE SHOWERS TO MOVE FROM WEST TO EAST FOR THE RESIDENCE OF THE DAY, GIVING TIME TO CONSULT FOREMATOLOGISTS BRYLEE BROWN AND BRYLEE. THEY WILL TAKE US THROUGH WHAT WE CAN EXPECT THE REST OF THE DAY. YES. TAYLOR, I want to reiterate: This is not an organized storm day. It’s just chaotic out there. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL, DO IT QUIETLY. BE CAREFUL. THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK. NOW. THIS IS FROM THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER. THE LATEST NOTICE AND HERE IS CLANTON, ROCKFORD, AUBURN, DADEVILLE MONTGOMERY, UNION SPRINGS IN YELLOW. This is slightly higher than risk level one out of five. I think the atmosphere will stabilize a bit across central Alabama as this sort of last big band of rain takes effect to the south and east. BUT WE WILL STILL BE ON THE MIND and keep an eye on our southeastern counties. WE COULD HAVE A SHORT SPIN-UP TORNADO AGAIN, AND EVEN SOME OF THESE STORMS ALSO BRING SOME STRONG, GUSTY WINDS. THIS IS THE FUTURE RADAR GUIDANCE HERE. THIS IS OUR SHORT TERM GUIDE. YOU WILL SEE THAT THE RAIN BAND THAT TAYLOR ONLY SHOWS YOU ON THE LIVE RADAR IS NOW PUSHING FURTHER EAST AND MOVING SOUTH AND EAST. And so by this afternoon south and east of Birmingham will see the heaviest rain and a greater chance of a thunderstorm. We’re talking about CLANTON ROCKFORD TO MONTGOMERY AND AUBURN. Interstate 85 and areas to the south. I think a lot of us in central Alabama are dry tonight. JUST A FEW CLOUDS, MAYBE SOME LONG SHOWERS. BUT A COLD FRONT CONTINUES IN THE STATE. And behind that front we’re getting another blast of extremely cold, dry air. TOMORROW THERE WILL BE A STRONG NORTH WIND. IT WILL BE COLD IN THE MORNING. COOL WIND, 1920’S AND 1930’S 26 CULLMAN 31, BIRMINGHAM. AND THEN UNTIL AFTERNOON. We keep the sharp north wind so it stays very cold. AND THIS WILL FEEL MUCH DIFFERENT THAN TODAY WITH NUMBERS IN THE 40S. THESE ARE WIND COOLS. OUR HIGH TEMPERATURE TOMORROW CLOSER TO 50 DEGREES. MORE SUNSHINE AFTER THAT. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY LOOK GOOD. We’re starting with a warming trend that will get warmer through the weekend and will likely get warmer
