All-Star would waive the no-trade clause for Boston

All-Star would waive the no-trade clause for Boston

The Boston Red Sox could benefit greatly from right-handed pop in their lineup, among several needs this winter.

Nolan Arenado continues to swirl in trade rumors as the St. Louis Cardinals third baseman has nearly $75 million remaining on his contract for the next three seasons. He would have to waive a no-trade clause to be traded from St. Louis.

According to MLB.com’s John Denton, the Red Sox would reportedly be one of six teams Arenado would waive that clause for.

Arenado’s list of teams he would accept a trade to also includes the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

The eight-time All-Star posted a dip in 2024 with 16 homers in 152 games, but that could increase if he plays half of his home games at Fenway Park. It wasn’t that long ago that Arenado led the sport in WAR (Baseball Reference), hitting 30 home runs during the 2022 season.

The Red Sox still have about a day left to make a splash at the Winter Meetings. Whether it’s adding the right-handed bat or finally getting a front-line starter, Boston needs to make a deal.
