Allu Arjun was arrested after a woman’s death in Pushpa 2

Indian actor Allu Arjun has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman during a stampede at the screening of his blockbuster film Pushpa 2: The Ruleaccording to local reports.

According to reports, the arrest came after police filed charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and willful bodily harm last week against Arjun, his security team and the management of the Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad.

A Times of India The video showed police officers arriving at Arjun’s home to take him into custody in front of his family members, including his father, filmmaker Allu Arvind, and escorting him to a vehicle. More videos of the arrest went viral on social media today.

In the incident, a 35-year-old woman, identified by police as Revathi, died and her son was critically injured. According to police, Arjun and his team had given no warning to local authorities that they would attend the screening and his surprise appearance at the main entrance of the cinema triggered a deadly rush as dozens of people tried to catch a glimpse of the megastar . Police also say Arjun’s security guard increased the danger by trying to control the crowd, local reports said.

In a statement released after the incident on December 4, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said, “There was no intimation from the theater management or the team of actors.” It was also claimed that the theater did not have a separate or sideline for Arjun entrance and exit, although he had previously been informed of his arrival.

On December 6, Arjun posted a message on social media saying, “The tragic incident at Sandhya Theater breaks my heart deeply. My deepest condolences go out to the grieving family at this unimaginably difficult time. I want to reassure you that you are not alone in this pain and that you will meet the family in person. While I respect their need for space to grieve, I am committed to offering whatever support I can to help them navigate this challenging journey.”

He has pledged money to help the deceased woman’s family and to help her son, whose condition was described as “critical”.

Action film Pushpa 2 was a huge box office hit in India, estimated to have grossed over $130 million since its premiere on December 5. In the film, Arjun plays a sandalwood smuggler who clashes with government officials and police officers. The first film in the series, Pushpa: The Ascensionwas India’s highest-grossing film in 2021 and is among the most-watched Telugu-language films of all time.
