Alvin Kamara looks doubtful, sending fantasy football players into a panic

Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints’ star running back who was one of the biggest stars of the 2024 fantasy football season (and, I guess, real football too), is unlikely to play against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.

Kamara limped off the field during the team’s Week 15 win, went to the locker room with trainers and did not return. However, after the game, interim coach Darren Rizzi didn’t seem too worried about Kamara’s injury.

Kendre Miller, who was injured for most of last year and this year, took over the RB1 role for the remainder of the team’s loss to the Washington Commanders.

Fantasy football managers (myself included) had been frantically researching the severity of Kamara’s injury since Sunday. Since the Saints don’t play until Monday night, the team didn’t have their first practice of the week until Thursday.

Kamara didn’t practice, which was a worrying sign for the fantasy football managers who use Kamara. As did the team that signed former Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire earlier this week.

Rizzi has essentially confirmed the worst: Alvin Kamara is unlikely to play in Week 16 against the Packers.

Week 16 is generally a critical week in the fantasy football schedule, as the vast majority of leagues hold their semifinal games in preparation for the championship in Week 17.

Clearly, the players who drafted Kamara have put themselves in a strong position to reach the fantasy football championship, as Kamara is the second-highest scoring running back (behind Saquon Barkley) in standard PPR this season. leagues was.

Now, however, these players will likely have to make other plans. Kendre Miller is expected to get the majority of opportunities out of the Saints’ backfield on Monday night, so that’s an option.

This is a reminder that fantasy football is still a game of chance and injuries are a part of the game. Unlucky for those who had Kamara, but the good thing is that Kamara probably helped their teams get this far in the first place.

But it’s the next man’s turn!
