Switching problems occurred on an Amtrak Borealis train Saturday evening, leaving passengers stranded outside of St. Paul. The service, originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., faced significant disruption.

The train stopped about 20 miles short of its destination, causing frustration among more than 200 passengers. Amtrak confirmed that technical teams were working urgently to resolve the issue and ensure safety.

Amtrak resolves technical issues after lengthy delay

Amtrak crews resumed train travel at reduced speed around 10:15 p.m. The Borealis service finally reached St. Paul at 10:37 p.m., more than four hours behind schedule.

Passengers criticized the lack of updates during the incident and cited their frustration with limited communication. Amtrak apologized for the inconvenience and emphasized ongoing efforts to improve response protocols.

Amtrak promised to investigate the switchover issues and make upgrades to prevent similar disruptions. Officials remain committed to improving safety, reliability and customer service on all routes.
