“Anaconda” by Jack Black and Paul Rudd will be in cinemas at Christmas 2025

“Anaconda,” a reimagining of the 1997 original about a very, very large snake, will be released in theaters nationwide on December 25, 2025, courtesy of Columbia Pictures. The announcement was made in a somewhat unconventional video by stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd. You can watch the video below.

The new film, which, judging by the salty language in the video, will be rated R, was written by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten and will be directed by Gormican. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form produce via the Fully Formed banner. Plot details are being kept secret deep in the Vipers’ Nest, but Rudd is wearing a medical gown in the clip, so make of that what you will.

The 1997 original starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Eric Stoltz, as well as a very over-the-top Jon Voight. It was about a documentary crew deep in the Amazon, led by a snake hunter (Voight), searching for a mythically large anaconda.

Although it was a solid success on a $45 million budget and grossed $136 million, it went on to become an unlikely franchise starter, with a solid theatrical sequel released in 2004 and several more direct-to-videos. video titles that have come out over the years.

What does the new version have in store for us? Only time will tell!

“Anaconda” hits theaters on December 25, 2025.
