‘Anaconda’ Reboot Sets Release Date Starring Paul Rudd, Jack Black

Paul Rudd and Jack Black announced that their reimagining of Anaconda will be a Christmas film – or at least in cinemas on that day.

In a promo clip uploaded Friday morning, the pranksters revealed the December 25, 2025 release date (and showed off their chemistry).

“We’re making a movie!” Black exclaims at the start of the video, confirming earlier reports that he and Rudd would be teaming up to star in the serpentine tale.

Tom Gormican, director of “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” is directing the Columbia Pictures film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. Plot details, including Black and Rudd’s roles, are still being kept under wraps, but Black confirms one key point: “It’s going to be one hell of a snake, and it’s going to snap!”

According to Rudd, the film will have something for everyone. “Do you want to be afraid? Do you want to laugh? Do you want to celebrate with your friends?” he says, then becomes expressionless. “Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have no one but just want to forget it? It will be released on Christmas 2025.”

During the rest of the 53-second clip, the two tell more crude jokes about the film coming to theaters, then Black offers to introduce Rudd to his reptilian co-star.

“Dude, have you seen that snake? It’s in this room, right there,” he says, instructing the dizzy Rudd to follow him out of the frame. “You’re about to feed him a donkey – come on!”

Despite the shared title, “Anaconda” is not a remake of the 1997 thriller, which starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube as part of a National Geographic film crew captured by a crazed hunter with multiple accents (Jon Voight). Search as hostages were taken to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake. This film was a box office hit, grossing $136 million worldwide and spawning four sequels.

Gormican’s film reportedly takes a meta-turn – like the one he successfully directed with the Nicolas Cage starrer “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” – and focuses on a group of friends who face a mid-life crisis and focus on the Make way to remake her favorite film from her youth. But when they head into the jungle, things get very quick.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing “Anaconda” through their Fully Formed banner, which signed a first-look deal with Sony’s Screen Gems division earlier this year. Black and Rudd also have close ties to Sony thanks to the successful Jumanji and Ghostbusters franchises.
