Analyst Bill Belichick reveals the grim reality of the New England Patriots

New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick could very well be closing in on the North Carolina Tar Heels head coaching job, which is certainly strange.

Belichick jumping into the college ranks? And to North Carolina of all places?

It’s almost like a quick reality check for Belichick, who parted ways with the Patriots after 2023 and hasn’t been able to land an NFL job since.

If Belichick does indeed take the position at North Carolina, it could potentially spell the end of his chances of returning to the pros, and Ted Nguyen of The Athletic has revealed a rather bleak take on the whole situation.

“If Belichick actually goes to college, that would officially be the end of the Patriot Way in the NFL,” Nguyen wrote on BB in the NFL doesn’t seem to exist.

It’s certainly true that the Belichick coaching tree hasn’t had much success at the NFL level, which is why some still give Bill Parcells the overall win when it comes to picking the best coach in league history.

The NFL landscape changed under Belichick’s feet during his final years in New England, and the loss of Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was also a bucket of ice water.

The Pats failed to make the playoffs in three of the last four years at Belichick’s helm, including an abysmal 4-13 season in 2023.

Things haven’t gotten much better in Foxborough since Belichick’s departure, either, as Mayo – who served as linebackers coach under Belichick – went just 3-10 in his debut season and some are already calling for his job.

It really could be the end of an era for Belichick and “The Patriot Way.”
