Anupam Kher reveals why he initially turned down Manmohan Singh’s role in The Accidental Prime Minister

Anupam Kher, who appeared in the film Dr. Manmohan Singh played The accidental prime minister, paid a heartfelt tribute to the former prime minister on his Instagram feed.

Anupam Kher shared a long video message expressing his views on Dr. Manmohan Singh, the man and leader, explained. He also shared anecdotes about how he prepared for the role.

Mr. Kher described Dr. Singh as “gentle, smart, brilliant and kind”.

He said: “I met him twice at events. He always praised my work. He was an honest man, a great leader, a wonderful human being.”

Anupam Kher also revealed that he initially declined The Accidental Prime Minister for “various” reasons (including political reasons). At the same time, the film veteran felt that it was one of the films in which he played the character “truly”.

Anupam Kher believes that he “imbibed” Mr. Singh’s qualities to some extent while playing the character on screen. He also mentioned that his greatest quality was his listening skills.

“I will miss the man in the blue turban. The film may be controversial, but the man is not,” concluded Anupam Kher.

Sharing the video, he wrote in the caption, “Deeply saddened to learn of the death of former #Prime Minister of India #DrManmohanSingh! After studying him for more than a year for the film #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, I felt like I actually spent so much time with him.

“He was a good man by nature. Personally, completely honest, a great economist and a very humble person. Some might say he might not be a smart politician! My sincerest condolences go out to his family. Om Shanti,” Kher wrote.

Dr. Manmohan Singh leaves behind his wife and three daughters. He was Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014.

The Indian government has declared seven days of national mourning. The former Prime Minister’s funeral will take place tomorrow, December 28th.
