Arcanum is proof that every vote counts

COLUMBUS – The November 2024 general election resulted in several extremely close votes that either resulted in a tie or were decided by three votes or fewer. In total, 23 local races triggered an automatic recount. Ahead of the 2025 election cycle, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is reminding voters that every single vote counts. This year is no exception, as there are several tie-breaking or very close races throughout Ohio on a regular basis each year.

“Don’t let anyone tell you that a single vote doesn’t matter. That’s why we continue to make the Buckeye State both easy to vote and hard to cheat,” said Secretary LaRose. “While the focus is often on the top voting list, local elections can have a big impact in communities across Ohio. By doing our part to protect the vote, we are also protecting your vote to ensure the result accurately reflects the will of the community.”

Of the 23 local races that resulted in an automatic recount, three contests ended in a tie vote, three contests were decided by three votes and three contests ended in a single vote.

Arcanum can confirm LaRose’s statements. The vote for Issue 4, a property tax levy for Village of Arcanum, three votes made a difference. The levy failed by a majority of 668 to 665.

“Local elections held in odd-numbered years like 2025 can be notoriously close. “That’s why it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re registered to vote and ready to participate in our democracy in the new year,” LaRose added.

For those looking to run for office next year, the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office recently released the 2025 Candidate Requirements Guide to help potential candidates navigate the process and get their names on the ballot . Voters and candidates are also encouraged to review the 2025 election calendar and note key dates, including the upcoming primary election on May 6, 2025.
