WEATHER HEADLINES

  • NEXT 12: The Arctic front arrives overnight with rain and snow showers, some slippery patches and single-digit wind chills
  • SHORT TERM: It’s slowly thawing and we’re heading towards the weekend with lots of sunshine
  • LONG TERM: Alert day on Thursday for slippery areas in the morning, coupled with icy winds

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – An arctic front moving through tonight will bring us scattered showers followed by a brief period of snow showers. As temperatures drop, slippery areas are possible. By early Thursday we will be in the teens, with wind chills in the single digits.

There is a WAVE weather alert day for Thursday from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. as slippery patches and wind chills in the single digits impact the morning commute. Despite the cold, we will see increasing sunshine throughout the day, but maximum temperatures will reach a maximum of 20°C.

Temperatures will drop back into the teens Thursday night into Friday morning, but with calmer winds the wind chill effect will not be as significant as the night before. The sky will be with us until early Friday.

There will be more sunshine and a slight warming on Friday as high pressure begins to move east of us, bringing a southerly wind to the area. In most areas, highs will be around freezing or just above.

On Saturday we’ll see highs of over 40°C and sunshine again, making for a much better first half of the weekend.

As the temperature climbs into the 50s on Sunday, clouds will increase and eventually give way to our next weather maker on Sunday evening as rain begins. This rain won’t be quite as widespread until Monday afternoon, but you can expect a wet start to the next work week!
