Arizona State football fans criticize BYU QB's Alamo Bowl declaration

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff turned heads at the Alamo Bowl media availability on Thursday as he laid out what was at stake in his team’s game against Colorado on Saturday in San Antonio.

“I personally think it’s people’s Big 12 championship,” he said.

Oh boy.

Arizona State fans, whose team won the Big 12 championship game with a 45-19 win over Iowa State earlier this month, were quick to criticize Retzlaff’s comments, which went viral on social media.

Arizona State, Iowa State, BYU and Colorado all went 7-2 in regular-season Big 12 conference play, with the Sun Devils and Cyclones clinching the Big 12 title game by winning tiebreakers over the Cougars and Buffaloes.

ASU defeated BYU 28-23 in the only regular-season matchup among the Big 12’s top four finishers this season.
