Arizona State Football vs. Arizona results updates from the Big 12 game today

The Arizona State football team continues its 2024 schedule today with the Territorial Cup rivalry game against Arizona.

And you could call it a big Big 12 game for the Sun Devils, who could clinch a spot in the Big 12 championship game with a win.

Arizona State defeated BYU 28-23 last week. Arizona lost to TCU 49-28.

Arizona has to punt on its first possession against ASU football

The Wildcats gained 27 yards on their first possession, including 15 yards on a defensive pass interference penalty against the Sun Devils, but were left four plays into the drive with two incomplete passes by quarterback Noah Fifita on second and third and nine Plays execute a punt at the ASU 48.

Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan beat ASU in the Territorial Cup in Tempe last season, so stopping was a big problem for the Sun Devils early on.

McMillan had an 11-yard reception on Arizona’s first drive.

Sam Leavitt went 3-for-3 passing for ASU, while Skattebo ran the ball five times for 34 yards.

For the Sun Devils, the stakes couldn’t be much higher.

Arizona leads the all-time series against Arizona State 51-45-1. However, a majority of these Wildcat victories came before 1950.

Since 1949, ASU has a 44-31-1 record in the series. The winner of the game receives (or retains) the Territorial Cup Trophy, and the game is recognized by the NCAA as the oldest rivalry trophy game in the country.

The Sun Devils had a five-game winning streak at the end of the rivalry in 2022 and the Wildcats have won the last two games of the rivalry series.
