As the temperature drops, the city of San Diego is activating inclement weather shelters for the night

San Diego residents living without shelter can seek out shelter beds to escape the cold Monday evening through the Inclement Weather Shelter Program.

The program activates extra beds when:

  • The temperature is 50°F or less and the chance of rain is 40% or more.
  • The temperature will be 45°F or less regardless of whether rain is possible. And
  • In exceptional weather conditions, e.g. B. one or more centimeters of rain within 24 hours and persistently strong winds.

The following emergency shelters are open Monday evening through Tuesday morning:

  • Father Joe’s Villages: Joan Kroc Center, 1501 Imperial Ave., up to 61 beds for adults and 11 beds for families with minor children or single women. Check-in: Monday, 4:00 p.m., all night until occupancy. Check out on Tuesday at 5am.
  • Paul Mirabile Center, 1501 Imperial Ave., up to 62 adult beds. Check-in: 4:00 p.m., all night until occupancy. Check out: 5am
  • Living Water Church of the Nazarene, 1550 Market St., up to 28 adult beds. Check-in: 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. or until full. Check out: 6:30am

The shelter program is a partnership between the San Diego Housing Commission, the City of San Diego, Father Joe’s Villages and Living Water Church of the Nazarene.
