ASH Trojans travel to NOLA for state championship

ALEXANDRIA, La. (CALF) – The Alexandria Senior High School football team travels to New Orleans this weekend ahead of their state championship game!

The Trojans are one win away from the state championship.

Students, faculty, staff and fans sent the football team off and celebrated their successes throughout the season.

“One of the things I do every Friday night is I stand on the sidelines of the track, turn around and take a photo from the stands to see how our fan base has grown throughout the season,” Jody Goodman said , Principal of ASH. “Then we introduced the horns, which was a big deal, and we got a few shouts from around the state about how loud our fans were. It was a great experience.”

For some of the students who are there covering the Trojans, every Friday night offers a different perspective.

“It was a ride full of emotions,” said Alexander Rubio, 12th grader and member of the ASH media team. “I’ve been there since the beginning of the summer, so to speak, so I heard coach Thomas Bachmann always refer to the dome and say: ‘It’s going to be loud in the dome, we have to prepare for the noise.’ in this dome.’ Now we’re at the point where it’s a reality and it’s kind of crazy just thinking about how far away we are from this game. We were down by two points, came back and won the game, and now we’re going to the Dome. It’s a crazy reality.”

“It was really exciting. I covered the sidelines. I went to almost every home game,” said Valerie Teng, Grade 11 student and ASH Epic Yearbook member. “It feels like…the sense of community you get when you go to these games is second to none. Rain or shine, the ASH team and community come together. You can see her in the stands. Even when it’s freezing cold, the students are there and it’s very touching. Because I’m standing so close to the edge of the field, I’m basically right in the middle of it all. You can really see the emotions these players are feeling. It makes them feel human.”

“The Trojan spirit arises not only on the field, but also in many other areas, such as the pep rallies. We have a pep rally for every home game and it’s an incredible thing,” said Ana Heuilera, 12th grader and ASH Epic Yearbook member.

The ASH Trojans will look to put their unblemished record against Edna Karr on the line with a win that gives them the first state championship in school history.
