At the peak of the season, fewer Americans are receiving vaccinations

SALT LAKE CITY — Fewer Americans are getting their vaccinations this fall, according to the Washington Post, but what are the numbers in Utah?

Nicholas Rupp, spokesman for the Salt Lake County Health Department, said he has noticed a small difference in Utah.

“The response to respiratory vaccines is a little less enthusiastic this season compared to last season, but not by much,” he said.

Rupp said the change wasn’t big enough to be alarming.

“Only about 300 fewer (people getting vaccinated), but not so different that we’re concerned,” Rupp said.

However, the health department noted an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations last week.

We are in the middle of winter sickness season. Experts are worried about the possibility of the disease spreading as we approach peak season and fewer people are vaccinated.

“We won’t be satisfied with public health until we have really good herd immunity against these dangerous diseases,” Rupp said.

It takes about two weeks for the vaccination to take effect. So if you want to get a vaccination, now is the time. Click here to learn more about where to get your vaccines.
