“Baby Driver” actor Hudson Meek died Dec. 21 after sustaining injuries in a fall from a moving vehicle several days earlier, the Jefferson County coroner’s office said Newsweek.

Hudson, 16, suffered “blunt force injuries” after “falling from a moving motor vehicle onto the roadway” on Dec. 19 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, the Jefferson County coroner’s office said Newsweek.

“The decedent sustained blunt force injuries as a result of falling from a moving motor vehicle onto the roadway,” the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Newsweek. “The deceased was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.”

He was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, where he died on December 21. He was pronounced dead around 8 p.m. on Saturday

Hudson’s obituary on the Searcy Funeral Home website says he was surrounded by friends and family “and the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” at his death.

“Hudson was an organ donor and his family is comforted by the knowledge that he will continue to help others for years to come,” the obituary reads.

Who was Hudson Meek?

Hudson was born on August 5, 2008 to Derek and Lani Meek. He was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School and a member of the Vestavia Hills Rebel football team.

According to his obituary, he was also involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athlete, honor choir and student government.

“Hudson loved hanging out with his close friends, playing water sports, doing everything in the woods, traveling and acting in television and film,” the obituary reads. “He loved playing and watching all sports, but especially football, basketball, boxing and anything related to the Auburn Tigers.”

When Hudson was 13 years old, he became a certified open water diver. A year later, he earned an advanced open water certification.

Over the course of his 16 years, Hudson visited all 50 states. His obituary stated that his next goal was to visit all seven continents.

As an actor, Hudson has worked on several major films and television shows, some of which will be released in theaters in 2025.

“He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the opportunity to learn the names and stories of each member of the cast and crew,” his obituary said.

Hudson is best known for his appearance in the 2017 film Baby driver. He was the little baby in the film.

He also appeared in the 2023 television series Found as a teenage Sir and 2024 The school duelin which he appeared as Sirius.

Hudson’s family posted on his Instagram account @hudson_meek that the 16-year-old had died.

“His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and made a significant impact on everyone he met,” the post reads.

What’s next?

Vestavia Hills Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A celebration of Hudson’s life will be held December 28 at 11:30 a.m. CT at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama. The service will be livestreamed via Hudson’s Instagram account.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to one Vestavia Hills High School student. Contributions can be made by Venmo to HudsonMeekScholarship or by deposit at a Wells Fargo branch to account #5908180381.
