Ben Simmons is struggling to run the ruthless Nets’ new-look offense

With Dennis Schroder gone, Ben Simmons is the new point guard running the show.

And the Nets played on Monday – just not well.

The Nets will have to rely on their speed to win games.

But they were reckless, sloppy and turnover-prone, and that cost them a 130-101 loss to Cleveland.

“I think it’s just a matter of reading the game. “As you get faster, you’re going to make more mistakes,” Simmons said. “But it’s up to me to know where my guys are going to be and take care of the ball as a point guard.

“There are more opportunities for me now just to be at that point guard position. So I just find my ways. I’ll talk to the coach about some different looks and similar things that I see out there. So, yeah.”

Simmons scored 10 points and eight assists in a season-high 31 minutes.

But he had six of the Nets’ unsightly 22 turnovers, which the Cavs turned into 34 points.

With Schroder’s move, the Nets lost their vocal leader and chief of staff.

Simmons will take on the latter responsibility, but he’s a very different kind of general.

The Nets will miss Schroder’s scoring and playmaking, as both come largely from pick-and-roll situations.

While he formed a solid tandem with roll men like Nic Claxton, Simmons might have issues with distance as the center finished with a terrible -24.

Trendon Watford was forced out of the game with a left hamstring injury, the same injury he sustained earlier.
