Beyoncé sleds at halftime during NFL Christmas Game Day on Netflix

Thanks to the Queen of Music, Beyoncé, the Super Bowl halftime show may have to take a backseat to the newly minted Christmas halftime show.

The pop star hit — or skated — with a top-notch, star-studded performance that also included guest appearances from Post Malone, Shaboozey and Beyoncé’s daughter, 12-year-old Blue Ivy Carter. Although the main event at NRG Stadium was technically the Houston Texans’ game against the Baltimore Ravens, the day was dedicated to the #BeyonceBowl.

The performance began with a pre-recorded moment: Beyoncé wore a white cowboy hat and performed “16 Carriages” while riding a white horse; This moment marked the first time she performed any of her music Cowboy Carter Album live. Later, rising country singers — Tanner Adell, Tiera Kennedy, Reyna Roberts and Brittney Spencer — joined her for her cover of the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” which harmonized like a veteran girl group, a vocal move Queen Bey is familiar with.

Then the live show began in earnest. Wearing a dazzling white leotard and matching chaps, Beyoncé sang “Ya Ya” — the Grammy-nominated song for Best Americana Performance — bringing great energy and vocal precision. Dozens of dancers and musicians performed in the stands, bringing #Beychella vibes as they commemorated her groundbreaking Coachella performance in 2018.

Singer-songwriter Shaboozey joined Beyoncé on “Spaghetti” and then Post Malone entered the stadium as the two sang “Levi’s Jeans.” Fittingly, the rapper-singer wore jeans as they performed in front of a truck covered in jeans. Blue Ivy then received thunderous cheers from the audience as she danced alongside her mother to “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which topped the country and pop charts earlier this year.

“It’s such an honor to be in Texas right now,” Beyoncé said. “It’s only right that we host ‘Texas Hold’ Em’ in Texas for the first time.”

Beyoncé’s performance was so rousing that it may have helped the NFL cement another golden moment in pop culture by turning the Christmas Day halftime break into a coveted spectacle, similar to the coveted Super Bowl halftime performance. And for top musicians, the timing is perfect because the final Grammy vote always takes place over the holidays. This year, Beyoncé is the frontrunner as she is nominated for 10 awards, including all four country music awards.

Beyoncé worked the entire field during her performance and also performed her cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” while riding in a car, ending the performance by climbing across the stage – just like the musical goddess she is.

“Merry Christmas! God bless you all,” she told the enthusiastic crowd. “Thank you so much!”
