Big Blue is still 0-fer at home in the 9th L in a row

EAST RUTHERFORD — In a season full of dark and unwanted moments for the New York Giants, the darkest may have come late Sunday afternoon.

Not because the franchise was embarrassed or because the banner that flew over them before kickoff hit deeper than it did last week. The Baltimore Ravens simply methodically picked apart the inferior Giants, and with the reminder that in this league everything starts and ends with the quarterback, Lamar Jackson was in control of the game.

Ravens 35, Giants 14.

The Giants have now lost nine straight games and have yet to win at MetLife Stadium in eight tries. They haven’t gone winless at home since 1974, and that year the Giants played their games at the Yale Bowl in Connecticut.

Another chance to prevent that comes in Week 17 (December 29 against the Indianapolis Colts).

On the occasion of the anniversary of their 100th franchise season, the Giants (2-12) are celebrating quite a bit. They are looking for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and are still looking for the franchise quarterback of the future.

Ravens star Jackson reminds everyone what that looks like. He threw five touchdown passes, including two to Rashod Bateman in the first half.

The only bright spot for the Giants was the continued presence and production of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had 10 catches for 82 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown reception, with 6:36 left.

Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen have faced job security questions seemingly at every turn this season. And the Giants not only had the largest points lead in the NFL this season – they are 16.5 point underdogs – but also the largest at home since 1966, when they played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

The squad is exhausted. Two more starters went on injured reserve this week — left guard Jon Runyan Jr. and rookie safety Tyler Nubin, both with ankle injuries — and Tommy DeVito suffered a concussion in the first half, which led to Tim Boyle playing the entire second half.

Ravens 28, Giants 7, 4:01 remaining in 3rd

Lamar Jackson has his fourth touchdown pass of the game, again to a receiver running wide open in the secondary as Devontez Walker makes the grab. The Giants did a relatively good job on the ground preventing Derrick Henry (12 carries, 53 yards) from ruining the game, but Jackson picked them apart in the process. The Ravens’ star QB completed 17 of 19 passes for 204 yards and four scores.

Tim Boyle took the final snap of the first half in victory formation, and now we know why: Tommy DeVito is being evaluated for a concussion. After the test, DeVito actually has a concussion. He hasn’t come out of the Giants’ locker room since halftime, so Boyle will get the rest of the game.

Drew Lock, the emergency third quarterback, is also loosening up on the sideline. Due to heel and elbow injuries, it was questionable whether he would play.

Ravens 21, Giants 7, with 32 seconds left on 2nd

Lamar Jackson burned the Giants again, first with his legs and then with his arm. His scramble put the defense on edge, and then Jackson threw a perfect strike to Rashod Bateman, her second touchdown of the game, this time from 20 yards out.

Ravens 14, Giants 7, 2:15 remaining in 2nd

Devin Singletary gets the Giants into the end zone with a three-yard touchdown run, a much-needed score for the home team hanging around. Tommy DeVito’s fourth-down throw to Wan’Dale Robinson, which kept the drive alive early in the possession, was a thing of beauty, giving Robinson the win despite tight coverage from Ravens star safety Kyle Hamilton. Malik Nabers has recorded five catches and drawn two defensive penalties from Baltimore’s secondary so far.

Rookie Tyrone Tracy was a beast in pass protection.

Ravens 14, Giants 0, 10:53 remaining in 2nd

Just like that, the Giants lost two touchdowns. They moved the ball on offense and Tommy DeVito completed a third down pass to Wan’Dale Robinsin, which was drilled a yard in front of Ravens star safety Kyle Hamilton’s sticks.

The Giants got to the line and called a DeVito sneak, but he was stacked for the turnover on downs.

The Ravens wasted no time as Jackson rolled out and hit receiver Rashod Bateman for a 49-yard touchdown. Bateman juked two Giants defenders (Jason Pinnock and Greg Stroman) into the end zone, creating something of an insurmountable 14-point hole.

Brian Burns joins the elite club with the 8th sack

Brian Burns recorded his eighth sack this season. He became just the eighth player in NFL history to record more than 7.5 sacks in each of his first six seasons early in his career. The other seven players who achieved this feat are:

Another long special teams return, this time with a short punt from Jamie Gillan seemingly caught in the wind. Desmond King brought the ball back into Giants territory, and while the defense had a moment when Brian Burns sacked Lamar Jackson, the Ravens had the last laugh: On the next play, he hit Mark Andrews for a touchdown and a 7-0 Guide.

Adoree’ Jackson breathes some life into Big Blue

The Ravens were rolling…until they weren’t.

Justice Hill returned the opening kickoff 59 yards, and after a completion from Lamar Jackson to Zay Flowers, Jackson took off and raced another 15 yards into the red zone.

There, Adoree’ Jackson ripped the ball away from Lamar and he recovered the fumble himself. So the Giants defense took the first hit and managed to get up off the mat.
