Blake Shelton shares the story of how stepson accidentally FaceTimed this country music icon

There are some real benefits to having famous friends, but it also comes with a few risks. Blake Shelton learned this lesson after his stepson used Shelton’s phone and accidentally video-called a country icon.

Shelton told the story of the miselection in an interview CMT shared on TikTok. In the clip is the country singer and former Agree The coach recalled the time his wife Gwen Stefani’s son Zuma, now 16, called his nanny on the phone – and got a country legend instead.

“I was walking through the house and heard Vince Gill’s voice laughing,” Shelton recalled of the mix-up. “I looked and saw Zuma throwing the phone away.”

It turns out Zuma was trying to call his nanny, who also happened to be called Vince. When the child pressed the FaceTime button, it wasn’t his nanny who answered, but rather the songwriter behind hits like “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away” and “When I Call Your Name.”

Shelton explained that he was confused when he asked the boy what was wrong. “He said, ‘I don’t know. There was a man answering Vince’s phone.’ And I looked and he had called Vince Gill who was in Amsterdam – he FaceTimed him when he was in Amsterdam with the Eagles!”

Shelton reached out to the singer to explain the mixup, and Gill explained that he only took the call because he thought Shelton was having a little too much fun. “Man, I laughed,” Gill reportedly told Shelton over the phone. “I thought you were drunk or something.”

Shelton has been the stepfather to Gwen Stefani’s three sons since 2021 and is no doubt used to such mishaps by now.
