Blockbuster Patriots trade proposal lands All-Pro wide receiver in New England

Blockbuster Patriots trade proposal lands All-Pro wide receiver in New England

The New England Patriots failed to surround their quarterbacks (veteran Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye) with wide receiver talent this year, which led to problems on the offensive side of the ball.

They will need to add more weapons next offseason if Maye is to reach his full potential, and they will have multiple opportunities to acquire talent.

One thing New England could do is put together a package to land a top receiver like Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase. Recently, Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame suggested a blockbuster deal between the two teams that would bring Chase to the Patriots.

Verderame’s trade proposal called for New England to send a second-round pick and two third-round picks in 2025 and a first and fourth pick in 2026.

The Patriots would also likely have to sign Chase to a multi-year contract, which would likely cost around $30 million per year.

That may seem like a steep price, but it’s a deal the Patriots should take if the Bengals are interested. New England would retain its 2025 first-round pick, which is expected to be in the top five picks. They could then use that with a young wide receiver or another position of need.

Chase played collegiately at LSU, earning All-American honors and winning a national championship in 2019. The Bengals selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In his four seasons, he caught 347 passes for 4,859 yards and 42 touchdowns. He earned three Pro Bowl nominations and a second-team All-Pro selection, as well as Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
