Boston City Councilwoman Tania Fernandes Anderson discusses federal investigation – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) – Boston City Councilwoman Tania Fernandes Anderson released a statement Wednesday reporting that she is the focus of a federal investigation.

She said she could not comment on the investigation but was grateful for the support and well wishes she had received.

“To my people, voters of District 7: You know that I am always transparent with you and always available. My job is to show up and fight for you and that is exactly what I will continue to do – the work of the people,” Fernandes Anderson said in a statement posted on social media.

Fernandes Anderson attended a city council meeting at City Hall on Wednesday and reiterated that she could not comment on the details of the investigation.

“Something like that is hard, isn’t it? How would you feel if you were under something like that? So it’s a prayer. At every step you ask God to protect and protect you,” Fernandes Anderson said outside the meeting.

Fernandes Anderson was elected to the Boston City Council in 2021. She is the first African immigrant and Muslim American elected to the City Council. She represents Roxbury, Dorchester, Fenway and parts of the South End.

The councilwoman said Wednesday that she is focused on creating affordable commercial space, home ownership opportunities and improving educational facilities.

“This isn’t about me. When you come into politics thinking it’s a job, you have a responsibility, you want to do it with your heart, you want to do it because it’s important to you, but then it humbles you,” she said.
