Both sides of the Causeway Bridge are closed in the event of a multi-vehicle accident

MANDEVILLE, La. – Causeway authorities have closed the northbound and southbound Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge due to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that at least 11 vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred around 10:30 a.m. during the morning commute.

It is unknown what caused the crash, but Causeway GM Carlton Dufrechou tells WWL Louisiana that dense fog in the area may have contributed to the crash.

Motorists are advised to use the alternate routes I-10 East to Twin Span Bridge or I-10 West to I-55 North.

The accident has blocked all north and southbound lanes on the embankment while emergency crews work to clear the accident.

Heavy fog is reported in the area.
