Boxing Day Test | “It was probably one of the best barbecues I’ve ever seen”: Nathan Lyon on the Yashasvi Jaiswal-Virat Kohli walkout | Cricket News

While most talk of the run-out was between Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli in the last 45 minutes of the second day of the Boxing Day Test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, the Australian off-spinner also had one Nathan Lyon doing this weighed on his thoughts about the exit. After Australia’s first innings total reached 474, India appeared to be in control at 153 for 2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 82. When Jaiswal hit a throw from Scot Boland in the middle, Kohli and Jaiswal got mixed up in the middle, which resulted in Jaiswal being run out, followed by India losing two more wickets before the end of the day. Lyon criticized the run-out, calling it “one of the best barbecues” he had ever seen.

“To be honest, it was probably some of the best barbecue I’ve ever seen. It came out of the blue. They made it pretty easy out there…pressure does funny things. Stupid outliers are trainer killers, right? It was very special,” Lyon told ABC Radio’s Grandstand at Stumps after the play.

Earlier in the day, Steve Smith made his 34th Test century before being bowled clean by Akash Deep, an unusual dismissal for a score of 140. Smith added 156 runs for the seventh wicket with skipper Pat Cummins (49) and that meant Australia scored a total of 474 runs in the first innings.

It was Smith’s second hundred of the series after he spotted a hundred in the third Test in Brisbane. It also meant Smith now has the same number of Test hundreds as Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara. Out of a total of 9949 runs, Smith scored a total of 6209 runs at an average of 61.47, ranking fourth for Australia. “He’s the best problem solver I’ve ever played with and seen…he’s a special player and I know when Steve is on his feet. “It’s a great feeling to be in this locker room,” Lyon continued.

On Thursday, 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas made his international debut with a brilliant half-century. The youngster, who previously became the youngest player to score a half-century on debut in the Big Bash League, bowled Jasprit Bumrah for 18 runs in an over before ending his innings with 60 runs.

Lyon recounted how Konstas told him and Pat Cummins that the debut game felt like a class game. “He joined me and Pat Cummins at the start of the training session before the Baggy Green presentation. He said: ‘Boys, when do you think the nerves will set in?’ ‘This feels like a first-class game,’ said Lyon.
