Brett Favre apologizes sincerely for the Mark Gastineau situation that went viral yesterday

Yesterday I blogged above about the incredibly awkward encounter between Mark Gastineau and Brett Favre. The former Jets pass rusher confronted Favre at an autograph signing and expressed his 22-year-old resentment that Brett “took a leap” on Michael Strahan and gave him the single-season sack record. The clip was part of an ESPN 30 for 30 segment that will air in a few days about the New York Jets Sack Exchange. It’s uncomfortable, strange and sad. Gastineau is struggling with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s and is clearly not doing well, but ESPN was able to capitalize on that.

The clip went viral yesterday and was the talk of the town. This forced Brett Favre to apologize to Mark on Twitter. For Brett, it was an ideal opportunity to take the pressure off everything else he’s involved with.

It’s nearly impossible to make Brett Favre seem like a sympathetic figure in today’s world. Mark Gastineau accomplished this task yesterday. Does he care now? I would be amazed if he had any thoughts on his mind other than that Favre-Strahan incident. It’s all just sad.

It’s also hilarious that Brett Favre would take the time to apologize for this. Not the welfare scandal that led to him pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the less fortunate. An 8 tweet thread about the removal of a fake bag 22 years ago. Incredible.
