“I’m proud of my team,” head coach Brian Kelly said after the game. “Over the last two weeks they’ve listened to the reports that they didn’t feel like playing for anything and that the season was over and they just went out and played inspired football.” Over the last two weeks they have they showed consistent performances. … This team is 19-2 at home over three years.

“So whatever camp you want to get into, just go ahead. We had five freshmen and two sophomores on defense today playing off each other. We’ll take receipts and see you at the national championship.”

Kelly’s bold statement before the postseason could be a sign of good things to come for Baton Rouge. Although they failed to overcome the slump this season, LSU won 10 games in each of the program’s first two seasons.
