Britney Spears has been declared legally single after a six-month divorce wait

The six-month wait for Britney Spears and Sam Asghari’s final divorce is over. The former couple’s divorce proceedings began in August 2023 and the couple agreed to end their 14-month marriage in May 2024. Now Spears has been officially declared single.

The statement comes as Spears celebrates her 43rd birthday. She has yet to publicly comment on either occasion, but the singer has recently been advocating for her own freedom in her signature Instagram dance videos. “The day I married myself,” she captioned a post in which she twirled in a wedding dress. “I’m bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done.”

Asghari initiated the divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” at the time. He announced the split on Instagram, writing: “After six years of love and devotion to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold on to the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Shit happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous (sic) to me, so I just ask everyone, including the media, to be kind and considerate.”

Spears commented on the divorce a few days later. “As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together… 6 years is a long time to be with someone so I’m a little shocked but… I’m not here to explain why because honestly “said it’s nobody’s business,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been playing at full speed for far too long and my Instagram may seem perfect, but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that.”

Spears and Asghari began dating shortly after filming the singer’s “Slumber Party” music video in 2016 and got engaged in September 2022. After Spears was released from her conservatorship, the couple celebrated what she called a “dream” -Wedding ceremony that produced a star -studded crowd of guests.

Spears has now been married three times, divorced twice and had one marriage annulled. Her first marriage to Jason Alexander, a childhood friend who tried to derail her wedding to Asghari, was annulled in 2004 after 55 hours. In the same year she married Kevin Federline, with whom she has two sons. They later divorced after three years of marriage.
