Broncos cornerback Riley Moss picks the wrong time for his worst game

Broncos cornerback Riley Moss picks the wrong time for his worst game

The Denver Broncos fell in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, failing to secure a playoff spot and allowing the Bengals to remain in the playoff race.

The Broncos had a difficult time dealing with the Bengals’ passing attack, and despite seven sacks on the day, they still allowed Joe Burrow to throw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.

Riley Moss led the team with 15 tackles, but the reason he had so many tackles is because Burrow targeted him early and often in this game. The Bengals threw the ball to whoever Moss was covering. With Pat Surtain II working against Ja’Marr Chase for most of the game, the Bengals’ offensive game plan was to attack the other Broncos’ defensive backs, and everyone struggled, but Moss was having a bad day.

According to that stat, Moss was targeted 13 times in the game and gave up nine receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns, with Tee Higgins doing most of the damage.

Riley Moss is struggling in Week 17

It’s hard to knock Moss after the solid season he put together, but he looked just as bad as Levi Wallace in the game he played for Moss against the Cleveland Browns, which ultimately led to his cut. There are several things to consider about Moss’ performance.

1. Moss missed the last three games due to injury. Did he come back too early?
2. Early in the game, Moss suffered a knee to the head when tight end Mike Gesicki tried to jump over him. Moss looked a little shaken but never came out of the game.
3. The Bengals deserve credit for developing a great offensive game plan where they knew they could beat Moss.

Or it could be a combination of all of these things. The Broncos need to help Moss build his confidence ahead of next Sunday’s game against the Chiefs and the playoffs if the team qualifies.
