Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams: Open thread for the first half

The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams will face off today in a game that has completely different meanings for both teams. Even though the Bills have already won their division, a win still means a lot, both for the momentum and for the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, which they always hold thanks to a 30-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this season is still in the game. For the Rams, a win puts them right in the race for the NFC West title, but a loss moves them ever closer to a season without a playoff spot.

These teams met twice with Josh Allen at quarterback and the Bills won both meetings. Buffalo defeated the Rams on a late touchdown drive in the 2020 season, winning a thriller 35-32 at empty Highmark Stadium. Buffalo also ruined the Rams’ Super Bowl celebration in the first week of the 2022 season, winning 31-10 on the night Los Angeles unveiled its Super Bowl LVI banner.

However, historical context no longer has any meaning today as every team comes into the game for a different reason and needs a win. The Bills need to avoid disappointment after the decisive game this week, especially since next week they have a meeting with the Detroit Lions, the best team in football. Head coach Sean McDermott doesn’t allow for anticipation and distractions, so I would be surprised if this Buffalo team did anything other than focus on the task at hand, which is defeating the Rams and improving their record to 11-2 on the season with a winning streak of eight games, which would give the 1990 Bills the longest single-season winning streak in team history.

Come on, bills!
