Building fire in Salt Lake City causes road closures and transit delays

SALT LAKE CITY — A large structure fire in the Ballpark District caused road closures and transit delays Thursday.

A Salt Lake City Fire Department social media post said firefighters were working to extinguish a fire at a commercial building at 1030 S. 200 West.

Salt Lake police said 200 West from 900 South to 1300 South and Brooklyn Avenue from 300 West to 200 West will be closed. At this time, there was no timeline for these roads to open.

The Utah Transit Authority told riders to expect delays of 20 to 30 minutes on all TRAX lines in both directions from 600 South to Ballpark Station and all points in between.

Additionally, UTA’s Jingle Train will only operate on the TRAX Blue Line between Salt Lake Central and Courthouse stations.

The fire department said the fire was still active as of 12:30 p.m. and was being fought by approximately 80 firefighters on site and 20 firefighting apparatus. There are currently no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
