Bulls vs. Hawks Prediction, Odds and Tips

The last two Bulls games were a nightmare – at least from an offensive standpoint – as they scored just 91 and 98 points against the Bucks and Celtics, respectively. Those numbers should improve tonight when they take on Atlanta, a team they beat 136-122 and 125-113 in two meetings this season. This matchup has been dominated by Chicago of late, as the Bulls are 5-1 ATS/SU in their last six meetings. They also attended 5 of 6 visits to Atlanta. However, rumors of a possible Zach LaVine trade have intensified in recent weeks, which could be one of the main reasons why the Bulls star has scored 14, 14 and 13 points in three of his last four games.

Atlanta’s 6-game winning streak towards the end of November and early December was wiped out by a streak of just 2 wins in its last 6 games. This has gotten the Hawks back to .500, which is still an improvement over last season. However, I’m sure they won’t be too happy with a 15-15 record. Trae Young is also a name that often comes up in trade rumors, but it would take a sizable package in return for the Hawks to give up their franchise cornerstone. Atlanta enters Thursday’s game as a 6.5-point favorite. On paper, that sounds like a lot after suffering two straight losses to Chicago earlier this season.

These are the second and third fastest teams in the league this season in terms of pace, but over the last five games both the Hawks and Bulls have cooled off offensively. Atlanta is averaging just 106.4 points per 100 possessions, while the Bulls are doing even worse at 104.1 points. The under has cashed in Chicago’s last 5 of 6 games and Atlanta’s last 5 against Eastern Conference opponents. In order for the two teams to reach a total score of 242.5, they would have to perform at their best in all four quarters; I just can’t imagine this happening. I’ll take the bottom one.
