BYU guard Egor Demin struggles with loss

In just a few games, Egor Demin has been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA draft hemisphere.

Heading into a Tuesday night game against the Providence Friars, Demin had averaged 14.3 points, 6.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game for an overall shooting percentage of 57%, all numbers that are well placed in the top five Allow drafts to close.

However, Tuesday didn’t go exactly as he expected.

Through 22 minutes, Demin shot 0-for-10 from the floor and missed on all five attempts from beyond the arc. He scored just six points total, all from the line, and added three rebounds, two assists and a turnover.

Even worse, the Cougars suffered a 19-point loss to Providence, their second of the season.

While the game was an obvious blight on his otherwise great start to the season, there were just a few caveats. First, Demin’s shooting difficulty was exceptionally high, as he only took 10 shots away, with three-point shots behind him, contested mid-range balls, and floaters that went wide to the right. While that might be a major blow to his shot selection, at least he didn’t miss any extremely easy shots.

Secondly, despite his 0-0 result on the field on the evening, he was still able to have some influence on the game, albeit to a small extent. He used his length to fend off numerous shots at the other end of the pitch and still managed to distribute some nice passes and bring down the boards.

Demin, whose stock is now somewhat wavering after three quiet games in a row, will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Dec. 11, against Fresno State at 8 p.m
