Cable break, three reasons for failures, delays on the MBTA S-Bahn

According to an official MBTA Commuter Rail social media account, two commuter trains on the Stoughton Line were canceled in Back Bay on Wednesday afternoon due to a fallen cable, and two trains on the Fairmount Line were canceled due to a fallen tree, according to an official MBTA Commuter Rail social media account.

Stoughton Line train 880, scheduled to depart Stoughton at 4:05 p.m., was canceled and Stoughton Line train 879, scheduled to depart South Station at 2:55 p.m., was canceled at Back Bay station due to a broken contact wire stopped. the MBTA Commuter Rail said in social media posts.

The next train from South Station to Stoughton (train 881) was scheduled to depart at 4 p.m., and the next train from Stoughton (train 882) was scheduled to depart at 5 p.m., according to the posts.

Keolis Commuter Services, which operates the commuter rail system, said the cancellations and delays were caused by a broken Amtrak overhead line on a track near the Back Bay station.

“Amtrak personnel are on scene making repairs and two tracks are open in the area,” Keolis said in a statement around 5 p.m

The MBTA also warned of “significant delays” for commuters on the Framingham/Worcester, Needham, Franklin/Foxboro and Providence/Stoughton lines due to the cable break. A message was sent to Amtrak requesting more information.

Meanwhile, Fairmount Line train 943, which departed South Station at 3:17 p.m., was grounded at Dorchester station due to a fallen tree in the Four Corners/Geneva area. Train 944 on the Fairmount Line, scheduled to depart Readville at 4 p.m., was also canceled.

The next train out of Readville was Train 946 on the Fairmount Line, scheduled to depart at 4:30 p.m., and the next train out of South Station was Train 949, scheduled to depart at 4:47 p.m., the posts said.

The outages and delays came as a storm brought heavy winds and rain to the region on Wednesday.
