Caitlin Clark captured the nation’s Basketball Reference player views

It’s no secret that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is the biggest and most popular superstar in women’s basketball right now.

Look no further than the fact that Clark was named the 2024 Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, or that she is currently the 10th highest-paid female athlete in the world (with the vast majority of that money coming from endorsements), according to a December 5 report from Sportico’s Kurt Badenhausen.

Of course, this kind of fame and recognition comes as no surprise to anyone who has witnessed Clark’s rise to superstardom in recent years. What might be surprising, however, is how advanced she appears to be compared to some of her other basketball peers.

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Clark was the most searched player on Basketball Reference’s women’s college basketball player pages, as reflected in a graphic from the StatMamba X account.

This is another example of the massive movement Clark is making not just in her home state of Iowa or where she plays pro ball in Indiana, but across the country.

It’s hard to imagine anyone’s stardom reaching the point next season where he overtakes Clark in any state, at least as far as the WNBA is concerned.
