Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb William says he’s ready to take the blame for Thursday’s 6-3 loss after posting seven sacks and throwing a game-winning interception against the Seattle Seahawks.

“We played pretty well today on both sides of the ball, special teams and defense, and then we didn’t play well on offense,” Williams said after the game (45-minute mark of video below). “There were mistakes. “There were stupid sacks that I took that lost 10, 14 yards, which is frustrating.

“I have to say I will definitely take the pressure in this game just because of some of the situations I put us in. Like I said, that sack that I took, that I didn’t have to take, that brought us.” “We were empty and I brought a guy from the border. Just throw it over the guy’s head and you’re still playing.”

Williams concluded: “I didn’t play well enough. I didn’t put the team in a good position to win, not in a better position to win, and that’s it.”

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky analyzed Williams’ seven sacks after the loss and identified two of the hits as the quarterback’s responsibility and three as a result of exposure by the offensive line.

Williams also threw an interception with less than 15 seconds left after the Bears struggled with clock mismanagement on their final drive.

Interim coach Thomas Brown, who did not take a timeout as time expired on the final drive, also took responsibility for the loss after the game.

“The offense wasn’t good enough, and that starts with me as far as the game plan that I had going into that game, which was that those guys were ready to play,” Brown said (in the Seahawks’ official transcript).

The coach added: “I wasn’t good enough. Do it to me.”

Williams has now recorded 67 sacks in his second NFL season, which is the fourth-highest total ever by a quarterback in a season.

The Bears also set a single-season franchise record, surpassing the 66 sacks made by four quarterbacks in 2004.

Brown can’t be sure he’ll lead the team next season after watching his team lose its 10th straight game on Thursday.

But if there’s one thing he and the Bears can focus on in Sunday’s season finale against the Green Bay Packers, it’s making sure Williams doesn’t come close to Derek Carr’s record of 76 sacks in a season.
