Calm weather over the weekend, changes on Sunday evening

Temperatures will remain mild and skies will be mostly sunny throughout the weekend

PARK CITY, Utah – A weak storm system will hit Utah starting Sunday evening, ending a 10-day dry spell. Cold air will begin to flow in on Sunday afternoon and there will be a chance of light thunderstorms in the mountains. However, a stronger cold front will arrive on Monday morning, dropping temperatures by around 15 degrees and bringing light rainfall.

The storm does not appear to be a major snow producer, with only about an inch of snow expected for the city/base area of Park City and 1 to 3 inches for the Wasatch Mountains. There is a small chance of some snow overnight Monday and Tuesday morning, which would result in a slight increase in snow levels in favored locations.

However, a major impact of the storm will be the erosion of the strong inversions in the northern valleys, which will most likely begin Sunday afternoon as colder air begins to move in. Residents of Salt Lake, Davis and Utah counties have been dealing with poor air quality since last Sunday. By Monday morning, these areas should be completely cleared and air quality will be significantly better. Until then, however, air quality along the Wasatch Front remains in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category.

After the storm on Sunday/Monday, the next chance of significant snowfall will not be until next weekend.
