Cam Skattebo deserves to be a Heisman Trophy finalist

Cam Skattebo and the Arizona State Sun Devils completely flipped the script on their season and won the Big 12 championship after being projected to finish last in the conference before the season began.

It’s been a magical run for the Sun Devils in their debut season as a member of the Big 12 and now they’ve secured a spot in the College Football Playoff, but that may not be the only thing that was secured Saturday in Dallas.

Cam Skattebo may also have secured a trip to New York City on December 14 as a Heisman finalist. The star running back finished the day with 170 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns as well as 2 receptions for 38 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. His season results so far are straight out of a video game. Just south of 2,000 all-purpose yards with 19 touchdowns while leading his team to the Big 12 Conference Championship and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff in his first season as a member.

The numbers may not be the same, the style may not be as flashy and the name may not be as well-known as Ashton Jeanty’s, but there should be no doubt that Skattebo deserves an invite as a Heisman Trophy finalist. Along with Ashton Jeanty, Travis Hunter and either Cam Ward or Dillon Gabriel, Skattebo has more than earned his place among these fantastic players.
