Can the New England Patriots get the No. 1 overall pick? The Giants’ shocking win throws the NFL draft order into chaos

FOXBORO – The Patriots may not have been on the field Sunday, but New England football fans had a lot to cheer about Sunday thanks to the New York Giants. With another loss, the Patriots would remain the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NFL Draft Order

Following Saturday Blowout loss The Patriots were just 3:13 against the Los Angeles Chargers this season. With this record, New England was ranked No. 2 in the NFL draft on Sunday.

In a stunning turnaround, the Giants defeated the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, who were still alive in the AFC playoffs when they entered the game with a record of 7-8.

Thanks to New York’s win, the Giants slipped out of first place and the Patriots took over that spot heading into the final week of the season.

The Patriots are currently the No. 1 pick

If the Patriots lose to the Buffalo Bills next week, the coveted draft pick would be a crucial part of their rebuild.

Even if they win against the Bills, the Patriots can’t fall out of the top five. Buffalo will likely be the backup since the No. 2 seed in the postseason has already been determined.

On Sunday, in addition to the Patriots, there were five 3-win teams that took the No. 2 to No. 6 spot in the draft.

Old friend Mac Jones’s Jacksonville Jaguars were one of them, taking on another in the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars won that game 20-13.

After Sunday afternoon’s games, the Patriots are now one of four teams with three wins.

Ties in the draft order are determined by who has the lowest strength on the schedule. As of Sunday afternoon, the Patriots are batting .465. That’s the lowest number among teams competing for the top spot in the draft.
