Canucks vs. Golden Knights prediction, tips and odds for today’s NHL game

The Canucks will look to shake off a disheartening loss in their second game in as many nights. While Vegas may not seem like the right opponent at first glance, our NHL expert did in-depth research and believes Vancouver offers value.

After a third-period failure in Utah, the Vancouver Canucks are back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Sin City for a date with the Pacific-leading Vegas Golden Knights.

Vancouver, which trails by six points in the standings with one game remaining, is the underdog in the NHL odds at +150 money lines.

However, they did well at T-Mobile Arena, which is a big reason why my Canucks vs. Golden Knights predictions and NHL picks for December 19th suggest a resurgence in performance.

My Canucks analysis

Going on the road for the first time after a mediocre 3-2-1 at home, it looked business as usual for the Vancouver Canucks against the Utah Hockey Club as they took a 2-0 lead after two periods.

But Vancouver gave up three straight goals, including the game-winning goal in the extra frame, to drop a 3-2 OT decision.

The Canucks usually thrive on the road, as they suffered just their fourth road loss of the season and only their second in overtime, dropping them to 10-2-2 on the year. Vancouver ranks in the top five in both goals for (3.54) and goals against (2.46) on the highway.

It’s the first time they’ll get a look at the division-leading Vegas Golden Knights, who are on a roll and have picked up five wins in their last six games. This also includes a 3-2 win in the last away game against the strong Minnesota Wild.

While they rank 13th in goals against this year (2.94), Vegas has really been shutting down opponents lately, allowing two goals or fewer in each of those wins. With 3.45 goals per game, they are among the league’s elite offensively, placing them sixth in the NHL.

While Vegas will be fresh, having had three full days of rest between games, they have had their problems against the Canucks, losing two of their last three head-to-head meetings.

Vancouver has also won three of its last four games in Vegas, with each of those wins coming by at least two goals.

It’s also likely that Kevin Lankinen has gotten over the flu (due to illness) and will be in net. He was literally unbeatable away from home, posting a record of 10-0-1 in eleven starts.
