Who shot the CEO?

A day after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot on a New York City sidewalk, police still have not found the shooter but have released photos of a person wanted for questioning.

What happens now: Investigators were still working Thursday to identify and locate the shooter, who was last seen riding an e-bike into Central Park. Near the Hilton Hotel where the attack took place, investigators discovered a cell phone, which they are analyzing, as well as three bullet casings reportedly marked with the three words “deny,” “defend” and “depose.” Officials also released two surveillance images of a person wanted for questioning in connection with the deadly ambush. 👉 Follow us for live updates.

Earthquake shakes Northern California

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck near the city of Petrolia, California, at 10:44 a.m. local time on Thursday, triggering a now-canceled tsunami warning that stretched from southern Oregon to San Francisco.

What happened? The quake struck near California’s sparsely populated northern coast, just offshore of the San Andreas Fault, which runs along the coast. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, 13 different aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 5.1 to 3.1 occurred in the area within two hours of the initial quake. 👉 Here’s everything we know.

Bitcoin shoots past $100,000

Bitcoin’s price topped $100,000 for the first time on Thursday amid expectations that Donald Trump will create a friendly regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies during his visit to the White House next year.

There’s Wendy’s Frosty

Forget the neon green of Brat Summer. And the watermelon-chic aesthetic of “Wicked” is clearly the same as last year. Pantone’s Color of the Year 2025 has been announced and it is…brown? The company announced Thursday morning that next year’s shade is the more subdued Mocha Mousse, a calm, lightly pigmented color. I suspect they couldn’t be named after a Frosty or a Mocha Frappuccino for copyright reasons. “The overarching theme in finding this year’s color was this whole idea of harmony,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
