Champions League phase table: What it looks like – Man City is in danger

Champions League phase table: What it looks like – Man City is in danger

The biggest topic of conversation, certainly in English football, is the dangerous situation facing Manchester City.

They sit in 22nd place after a 2-0 defeat at Juventus, just one point above the places that mean complete elimination.

But much more than that: the team on this pitch is Paris St-Germain, who host City next on January 22nd. PSG beat Red Bull Salzburg 3-0 and remains in the race.

The loser of this game next month is just around the corner.

Despite their 3-2 win at Atalanta, defending champions Real Madrid are only one point above City and two above PSG.

Liverpool are the only team to have won all their games after a 1-0 win over Girona – and secured a place in the knockout rounds.

Barcelona are next after a 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund, who are in ninth place.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are both in the top eight after wins over Monaco and RB Leipzig respectively, along with Bayer Leverkusen, Inter Milan, Brest and Lille.

Brest, who beat PSV 1-0, are the biggest surprise of the tournament in their first season in European competition. They have to play their home games in Guingamp because their stadium does not meet UEFA standards.

Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are just outside the top eight.

Celtic, sandwiched between Real Madrid and City, managed a 0-0 draw at Dinamo Zagreb and next play points-less Young Boys as they look to secure a place in the play-offs.

Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys have all lost six games.

A thrilling final is assured on January 29th when all 18 games are played simultaneously at 20:00 GMT.
